“I was inspired by my brother and uncle during their sea time.”
Wei Hao graduated from cohort 15 of the TNTA programme and he is now a deck cadet working with Pacific International Lines Pte Ltd.
Reason for joining the maritime industry:
Seeing two of his family members working in the maritime industry and listening to their experience during their sea time, Wei Hao was inspired to pursue a career in maritime too. He had always wanted to see the world and wished to work with people of different nationalities. A seafaring career is no doubt the ideal one which enables him to do so.
Influence of TNTA on his life:
Inspired by both his brother and uncle, Wei Hao joined the TNTA programme which gives him the opportunity to pursue his desired career. Now wiser and more mature, he is happy that his parents are also proud of the positive change in him while he was undergoing the TNTA programme. It has boosted his confidence and propelled him to plan for his career and finances.
Wei Hao aspires to be a Ship Captain one day.
Memorable times on board the ship:
It was during Basic Operational and Ship Safety Training (BOSST) for a firefighting safety activity where Wei Hao learned how to rescue people in enclosed spaces.
Wei Hao has learnt that safety is of utmost importance while on any ship. Though kind of old school, he still believes in jotting down everything he learnt, especially on safety and prevention on a journal instead of technological means. He believes he will remember the safety rules better.
